Previously our only source of exchanging cryptocurrency was through exchange sites or among peers with the help of a bitcoin wallet.
Apparently, Whatsapp messenger users will now be provided with the facility to transfer cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin and Litecoin through Lite.Im bot. The bot will also support transactions in the company’s native token ETH and ZTX. This blockchain platform was developed by the Zulu Republic.
Over the years, there has been gradual growth in platforms that support the transaction of digital currency between its users, and now Whatsapp is amongst them. Zulu Republic introduced the bot to Messenger, Facebook, Telegram, and on SMS through carriers in 2018, almost a year before its launch of Whatsapp bot. The company in December 2018 announced that their services would support the acquisition of digital currency in Messenger, Telegram, and SMS directly through debit and credit cards. A Spanish tech startup Wuabit was reportedly working on a similar project and was working to creating a service that would allow Whatsapp users to send and receive.

With over 1.5 billion uses, Whatsapp finds itself in a unique position. It can introduce mass adoption to new technologies. Approximately 20% of the world population uses the app for texting. Imagine all these people could now easily get started with bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
For now, this is just an “add on”, but in technology when enough people start using addons it can become a pre-installed integration in the app itself. In my own simple terms, WhatsApp + Cryptocurrency = Mass Crypto Adoption.
